An update on the season from Artistic Director, James Kennerley

Wow – our Holiday Concert in December was just fantastic. The amazing singers of NJSCC did themselves proud, singing a beautiful program to a full house (they thought I was kidding when I told them there would be hundreds of people to listen to them!). We now have a very strong base upon which to build the NJSCC into one of the area’s best children’s choruses.

We’re now working on preparations for our March concert, I Bought Me a Cat: Folk Songs From Around the World. When I was a kid, I remember loving the beautiful American folk song settings by Aaron Copland. One of those, I Bought Me a Cat, is a hilarious, grown-up version of Old MacDonald featuring a nonsense story and animal sounds in the voices and the piano! We’re also working on folk songs from around the world, including Ireland, Israel, England, Japan, and South Africa. Folk songs constitute some of the most beautiful melodies and amusing lyrics that song has to offer, and it’s going to be a great concert.

I’m so excited about what’s happening at NJSCC. Help us grow by spreading the word about what we do, encouraging kids to come and sing with us (no auditions – just come and try us out!), and attending our concerts.

Speaking of which, see you on Sunday, March 4, 4 PM at Ridgewood United Methodist Church!
